Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary
- Ride distance: 0 km
- Upon your arrival at New Delhi airport, you’ll be greeted by our crew and transferred to your hotel. Take the day to acclimate and feel the incredible energy of India’s capital. We will gather in the evening for a group briefing to prepare for the epic adventure ahead.
- Ride distance: 0 km
- Our adventure begins as we leave the bustling capital behind. We’ll take an early morning train to Kalka, where a comfortable private vehicle will be waiting for us. The journey then continues by road, climbing thousands of feet into the mountains on a scenic drive to Shimla, the historic former summer capital of British India.
- Ride distance: Approx. 30 km
- A crucial day for acclimatization to the 2,200m altitude. In the morning, you’ll meet your Royal Enfield for the first time. After a traditional pooja ceremony for a safe journey, we’ll take a short ride around Shimla to get you acquainted with your machine and the Himalayan roads.
- Ride distance: Approx. 165 km
- The real riding begins! We leave Shimla and ride along the legendary old Hindustan-Tibet highway. The road carves its way through beautiful pine forests and apple orchards, offering stunning valley views. Our destination is the serene village of Sarahan, famous for its magnificent Bhimakali Temple with its unique blend of Hindu and Buddhist architecture.
- Ride distance: 0 km
- A day of rest and acclimatization in Manali is essential before we ascend to the high passes. This is your final day in the lush, green part of the Himalayas before we venture into the high-altitude desert.
- Ride distance: Approx. 150 km
- Today, the scenery undergoes a dramatic transformation. The lush green of Kinnaur gives way to the stark, barren beauty of the high-altitude desert. We’ll make a stop at the village of Nako before continuing our stunning ride to Tabo, home to the 1000-year-old Tabo Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site often called the “Ajanta of the Himalayas.”
- Ride distance: Approx. 50 km
- A short ride today allows for incredible sightseeing. We’ll make a detour to visit the spectacular Dhankar Monastery, perched precariously on a high spur overlooking the confluence of the Spiti and Pin Rivers. We then continue to Kaza, the administrative capital of the Spiti Valley and our base for the next two nights.
- Ride distance: Approx. 50 km
- A day of rest and exploration in the heart of Spiti. We will take a ride to some of the highest inhabited villages in the world, including Hikkim (home to the world’s highest post office) and Komic. The day is highlighted by a visit to the iconic Key Monastery, the largest in Spiti, offering panoramic views of the valley.
- Ride distance: Approx. 140 km
- Today we leave Spiti behind, ascending the mighty Kunzum Pass (4,590m). The descent is largely off-road and demands attention, leading us towards the Batal area, known for its challenging water crossings. Once we reach the smoother tarmac near Koksar, the ride becomes more relaxed as we follow the scenic Chandra River valley into the Lahaul region, arriving at the village of Sissu.
- Ride distance: Approx. 190 km
- An early start for a truly adventurous day. We ride towards Darcha, then turn off onto the less-travelled road leading to the formidable Shingo La pass (over 5,000m). This route, though challenging, offers a beautiful ride along the river, passing small villages and ancient gompas unique to this remote region. Crossing the pass itself requires careful riding. The descent brings us into the isolated Zanskar Valley and down to Padum, its main settlement.
- Ride distance: 0 km
- A necessary day off the bikes in the heart of Zanskar. Padum offers a unique glimpse into a region largely untouched by the outside world. You can use the day to rest, explore the impressive Karsha Monastery perched high above the valley, or simply wander the town and observe local life.
- Ride distance: Approx. 290 km
- A long and demanding day as we tackle the remote track towards Leh via Lingshed. This route involves crossing two major high passes, Singge La and Sirsir La, often featuring steep ascents and descents on mostly off-road terrain. It’s a challenging but spectacular journey through truly wild Himalayan landscapes, eventually connecting us back to the Indus Valley and leading us into Leh.
- Ride distance: 0 km
- After the intense Zanskar section, a full rest day in Leh (3,500m) is crucial. Use the time to acclimatize properly, explore the Leh Palace and markets, service the bikes, or simply relax in one of the town’s many cafes before we head towards even higher altitudes.
- Ride distance: Approx. 260 km
- We ride east into the vast, high-altitude plains of the Changthang plateau. The journey to the remote village of Hanle takes you through starkly beautiful, wide-open landscapes dotted with nomadic settlements. Hanle itself is known for its historic monastery and its incredibly clear night skies.
- Ride distance: Approx. 130 km (round trip)
- Today marks the ultimate riding achievement of the expedition. The journey from Hanle to Umling La requires navigating challenging, high-altitude tracks. Reaching the summit at over 19,000 feet offers an unparalleled perspective over the surrounding mountains and Tibetan plateau – a truly unforgettable moment. We return to Hanle for the night.
- Ride distance: Approx. 260 km
- Our final day on the road involves retracing our path across the Changthang plateau back to Leh. It’s a chance to soak in the immense scale of the landscape one last time. We’ll arrive back in Leh in the afternoon, ready for a celebratory farewell dinner.
- Ride distance: 0 km
- Our grand expedition concludes. In the morning, you will take the scenic flight from Leh over the Himalayas back to Delhi, carrying with you the unforgettable memories of a truly epic journey.
