Day 1

Delhi - Mandawa
We recommend that you book your flight with arrival in the early morning of Day 1 of the tour. (If however you decide to arrive the day before, we shall meet you at the airport and arrange transport and extra hotel accommodation in Delhi. You may then have an opportunity for some sightseeing in Delhi).
Arriving early morning at the international airport we will welcome you at the exit and we have transport ready to go by bus/minibus to Mandawa Village in the Shekhawati area, 265 km.The journey will take about 5 hours. But first we will visit a Gurdwara, Sikh Temple, and arrange breakfast. We will also facilitate currency exchange at a favorable rate. The journey to Mandawa will take some 5 hours.
The bus trip to Mandawa village will give you a first impression of the Indian traffic, initially on the crowded national Highway no. 8, then on a mix of country roads, newly constructed highways and through busy towns and villages. Arriving at Mandawa you will find the motorcycles, having been transported here by truck. Here you will also meet the support vehicle with driver and MC mechanic
After arrival you will get a briefing on the Indian road conditions and the traffic with focus on safe riding. Time permitting, and we ride in daylight only – never in the dark – there could be a possibility of a first familiarization with bikes and short trips in the area.
The distances indicated in this program are approximate and can vary substantially depending on road conditions and changes to the routing to accommodate changing circumstances. We always ride at a comfortable, limited speed for safety. And for time to stop and talk with people, see interesting sites and not least have the famous chai masala – and Parle G biscuits. Experience is, that a speed of 45-50 km/hr. is the normal average for a day.
The practicalities of packing for the trip will be sorted out. Your Enfield motorcycle is fitted with two large metal panniers and a luggage rack. But heavy luggage will be transported in the support vehicle. A small tank bag, possibly with magnets, may be useful for those things you want to keep handy.
We expect dry weather in Rajasthan, but no absolute guarantee. Daytime temperatures are likely to be around 20 degrees. At night it can get quite cool and clothing should take account hereof.
Day 2

Mandawa
Today we explore the “Painted Village” Mandawa, famous for its many decorated houses. Once a wealthy and prosperous town with many important buildings showing historically interesting motives. And today it is time to get fully acquainted with the Enfield and the traffic.
We take a ride in the surrounding region which offers a wide variety of roads of varying standard and traffic intensity. The fine landscape and ancient buildings, water wells and other ancient structures provide for many interesting sights. Along the way we may meet all different types of transport including the common camel carts, tractors, trucks, buses, cars, two and three wheelers. Not forgetting the cows, dogs, pigs, sheep and goats.
There will be an opportunity to visit the village Malsisar and on the return journey pass through Jhunjhunu, a very busy major town in the area.
Day 3

Mandawa - Bikaner
We have now got well acquainted with the bikes and traffic. Today’s ride will be longer than the previous days and we will take an early start. The destination is Bikaner on the edge of the desert. We start out on good roads to Fathepur and then on the highway through Ratangarh. After Ratangarh we can either continue on the highway direct to Bikaner or turn into some small, interesting roads through villages and then again on good country roads to Bikaner. This route is some 50 km longer than the highway routing. The ride on the small roads will give a good impression of life in the villages, the varying landscape and road conditions. Bikaner is a major town and from here the desert extends. Today the distance is some 200 to 250 km depending on the route taken.

In Bikaner there are many attractions: Exploring the town and it’s impressive Junagarh Fort and the old city, visiting the unique Camel Research Institute and the Lalgarh Palace to mention a few. The hotel also arranges camel safaris. Depending on interest, it is also possible to ride in the surroundings with visits to such sights as the Rat Temple at Deshnok (40 km distant).
Day 5

Bikaner - Jaisalmer
The ride today will be on a super highway to the town of Jaisalmer, the “Desert Capital”. Along the highway on the left hand side you will see the enormous earthworks resulting from China Clay works industries: Huge quarries surrounded by manmade mountains of overburden and extensive industrial plants. We may break the journey halfway for refreshments. Today’s distance is 370 km.
Day 6

Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer is famous among others for its enormous fort, numerous temples, palaces and havelis. Being a tourist center, the town has a wide selection of shops. We will take a ride out to Sam, (some 50 km distant) famous for the large sand dunes and spend some time there. Camel safaris can be arranged here.
Day 7

Jaisalmer - Khuri
The ride today has destination Khuri, a desert village. A route along small, interesting country roads. The Khuri area is characterized by large sand dunes with fine options for walks in the terrain. We can also take a ride to visit to Kuldhara Ghost Village. The guest house arranges camel safaris as well as overnight stays in the desert. On most evenings the guest house arranges traditional dances and music. Distance today 150km.
Day 8

Khuri - Ahore
Today will be a somewhat longer ride. Starting out from Khuri we follow the country road until we hit the National Highway which we follow to the major town Barmer. The highway is likely to be busy. After Barmer we turn into a newly constructed fine country road that takes us straight to our destination, the village Ahore. As we proceed, we notice that we are leaving the actual desert land and gradually enter more green areas. Today’s distance 325 km.
Day 9

Ahore - Ranakpur
The destination today is Ranakpur in the hills. A resort area near the famous Kumbhalgarh Fort. The routing takes us initially on a new superhighway with very little traffic. Later we ride a mix of small and larger roads through towns and villages.. Ranakpur is famous for its natural beauty as well as the large Jain temple, the Chaumukha Mandir with its 1444 columns. It is rated India’s finest Jain Temple. Depending on the time of arrival in Ranakpur we may visit the temple this afternoon, otherwise next morning. Today’s distance is 90 km.
Day 10

Ranakpur
The day is set aside for exploring the Ranakpur area and surroundings. Interesting rides and walks in the area with a large dam as well as an option for a walking safari through the Wildlife Reserve to Kumbhalgarh and visiting the fort. (Return by taxi).
Day 11

Ranakpur-Udaipur via Kumbhalgarh
The destination today is Udaipur, famous for its palaces and natural beauty with the large artificial lake Pichola. We ride on small roads through the interesting rolling terrain and may make a stop at Kumbhalgarh and visit the huge fort. After the fort we continue along country roads of varying but mostly fine standard with low traffic. The route takes us through a beautiful green valley marked by extensive irrigation and intensive cultivation. With some luck we may find some of the picturesque traditional ox-driven water wheels in operation. Coming out of the valley at Iswal we enter the recently constructed superhighway towards Udaipur. Today`s distance is 133 km.
Udaipur is a large town with a thriving tourist industry and shopping opportunities are ample here. Here you can find ATMs and the use of credit cards is generally accepted.

Day 13

Udaipur-Bijaipur Village via Chittorgarh
Bijaipur village is the destination today. The ride takes us along the newly built superhighway. First to Chittorgarh where we stop and visit the massive fort. After the fort, we continue to Bijaipur with the final 25 km on country roads. The distance 154 km. We stay in the middle of the lively village and with nice open land around.
Day 14

Bijaipur Village-Bundi via Bijolia
The journey today will take us to Bundi, the southernmost destination on our tour. From there we start turning North. We re-enter the highway and continue on the superhighway for some 80km where we reach the village Bijolia. En route there may be an opportunity to see the Menal WaterFall (depending on season). Along the highway a huge sandstone quarry and industry can be seen shortly before Bijolia. At Bijolia we will visit the 1000-year-old temples and then continue on a country road towards Bundi. The tour takes us through barren but interesting landscapes with hills and lakes. When we reach Bundi traffic is dense and we travel through narrow city streets full of vehicles and people. Today’s distance 142 km.
Bundi is a small and very busy town famous for its huge, abandoned fort Taragarh (Star) on the mountaintop on the edge of town together with a fine palace below. There are several attractions around Bundi. Worth visiting is also a famous painter of traditional miniatures, Soni Gopal. The town has a couple of fine baoris – stepwells – unfortunately neglected and in decay. Short rides can take us to Thikarda village with pottery manufacturing, Sukh Mahal Palace where Kipling once stayed and worked on “Kim”, Sar Bagh with royal cenotaphs, Shikar Mahal a royal hunting lodge occupied by countless monkeys!

Bundi-Sawai Madhopur
After some sightseeing in the morning we proceed to our destination, Sawai Madhopur along a busy, major road. En route there is a possibility of visiting the abandoned fort Indergarh. Sawai Madhopur is busy and a major tourism destination, famous among others for its large Fort Ranthambore. It is also here that tours in the Tiger Reserve can be arranged. Today’s distance will be 146 km.

Ranthambore Park is part of the Indian effort to preserve the Bengal Tiger in its natural habitat. Access to the park is restricted and only allowed in licensed park vehicles with driver and guide. Chances of actually seeing the tigers are guesswork but a tour of the park is a rewarding experience in any case. There are many other species of wildlife in the park with its beautiful scenery. Tours take place in the very early morning and last some 3 hours. Tours have to be booked in advance. At the time of registering for the motorcycle trip do let us know if you want the trip in the Tiger reserve. The other main attraction is the Ranthambore Fort – a huge structure spread over a large area above the town. A mind-boggling experience not to be missed. And from the fort you have a panoramic view of the surroundings and the Tiger Reserve.

Sawai Madhopur-Bharatpur
Today we ride to Bharatpur, some 195 km distant. The roads will be of varying standard, some of them small and rough and through villages. The area is known for its many traditional brickworks which are well worth a visit. Depending on time, a visit to Fathepur Sikri, the abandoned Imperial City may be possible before arriving at Bharatpur. The town is bustling, busy and a visit to the market may still be possible before dark.

Bharatpur - Jaipur
Today we start very early and visit the Keoladeo bird sanctuary just next to Bharatpur. This is a world-famous wetland and huge amounts of migratory birds congregate here in the season after a good monsoon. Motor vehicles are not allowed inside. Bicycles are for rent and rickshaws can be hired at the gate. After some 3-4 hours here and breakfast we continue by bus to Taj Mahal, the famous mausoleum for Mumtaz Mahal, wife of emperor Shah Jahan and completed in1653. Afterwards we return by bus to the bikes and ride on the highway to Jaipur. Distance 184 km.

The day is set aside for exploring the city with its many attractions. Among these is the City Palace with the famous Jantar Mantar, an ancient astronomical observatory of amazing complexity and scientific refinement. The Palace of Winds and the many busy markets. We take farewell to the bikes as from here we will proceed to Delhi by bus.

If you decide to spend some time on your own in Delhi there are many attractions including a visit to Karol Bagh where Lalli Singh Motorcycle Adventures have a home base among thousands of two-wheelers. Delhi has many attractions such as the old Delhi area with the bustling markets, the Jama Masjid Mosque, the Red Fort and the specialized markets around Delhi. Getting around is facilitated by very efficient Uber and Ola taxis, Tuk -Tuks, ordinary taxis and the extensive metro system. All at very affordable prices.

The itinerary, as it stands, is made to the best of our ability and is based on several years of traveling on the Enfield in the areas covered. Distances and travel times however are indicative only and conditions can change making it necessary to alter the routings resulting in changed distances and travel times. In India nothing is static and as a traveler you must have an open mind and enjoy the ride, even when deviations from the plan become necessary. The way to deal with this is humor and flexibility. Be sure to bring this along. We will of course strive to stay as close as possible to the plan. But as already said, in India nothing can be predicted for certainty.
Along the roads in Rajasthan are countless stalls that sell Chai Masala and often biscuits and other snacks. To the riders this provides ample and welcome opportunity to stop and relax, enjoy the chai and snacks and talk with the other guests and the chaiwala. In a number of cases we may arrange packed lunches to be taken along.
Now one more word about traffic: Indian traffic is often chaotic – especially seen with foreign eyes – and requires undivided attention at all times. Expect the unexpected and remember that all traffic ahead of you can do anything they want, anytime and anywhere. And they do it! The rule is to drive on the left but there are endless exceptions to that general rule. Even on fast motorways. At the briefing, there will be more on this and some advice. But, basically: Do not get excited or even worse, upset by happenings in the traffic. That spoils the day. Meet it with patience and a solid sense of humor. And you will have an experience of a lifetime.
